That pretty well defines the tunes Fats Waller wrote, recorded and popularized in the 1920s, '30s and '40s. And it sums up the Pointer Sisters, three singers who have been doing their recording thing and strutting their stuff through a vast array of musical forms for nearly 20 years. So it should come as no surprise that the Broadway Series' Ain't Misbehavin', a musical review of Waller's music, is a great vehicle for the Pointers. Waller's tunes are in many ways an earlier equivalent of the music popularized by the Pointers - full of double entendre and references, from sly innuendoes to overt statements, to those fundamental human interactions that make life worthwhile. If you enjoyed the sisters' hits like "He's So Shy," Slow Hand" or "I'm So Excited," you're likely to "Jump" in with both feet and find their performances in Ain't Misbehavin' an evening of raucous, toe-tapping, carefree enjoyment.
