The only thing Drake and Josh have in common is that they go to the same school. Drake is serious, while Josh is "cool." At opposite ends of the school social strata, the 15-year-olds are suddenly sharing the same room when Drake's mother marries Josh's father. Now, the two must adjust to their new status as step-brothers.
Overall, Drake and Josh is well worth its high ratings on Nickelodeon. Episodes deal with issues that many kids face from family blending to high school crushes. We were especially impressed with how the episode "First Crush" handled Drake's crush on a popular girl. In an attempt to impress her Drake lies to her and the results are almost disastrous, that is until Drake fesses up. Explaining that he was convinced that a girl like her would never go for a guy like him, he quickly learns that being himself was all he needed for her to notice him, if he had just tried to get to know her. The episode was well written and not condescending to the pre-teens and teens who understandably love the show. Both Drake Bell and Josh Peck are talented young actors who were regulars on The Amanda Show. Drake and Josh is one of the best of Nickelodeon's live-acton comedies and cartoons. It is also one of the few series aimed at 8-15 year olds that is appealing to both boys and girls.
