Vonda Shepard's third collection of music from the hit show ALLY McBEAL finds her once again mining the catalogs of boomer-friendly artists. Blessed with a warm vocal delivery and a confident piano style, Shepard leads her merry band of session musicians through soulful versions of classics by Carole King ("Home Again"), Tim Hardin ("Reason To Believe"), and Todd Rundgren ("Can We Still Be Friends"). The flaxen-haired vocalist also teams with former series regular Robert Downey Jr. on Bob Seger's "Chances Are" and with dance diva Anastacia on a sizzling cover of Gary Wright's "Love Is Alive." Downey's self-penned "Snakes" should have been left on the cutting floor, but the actor makes a respectable showing in a duet with Sting on the latter's "Every Breath You Take." Rounding out FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE are legends Al Green (his classic reworking of the Bee Gees hit "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart"), Tina Turner (the bouncy "When The Heartache Is Over"), and Barry White (You're The First, The Last, My Everything").
